Polestar 1—The Tests Prove Victorious

Although Polestaris no longer a part of the Volvoblood line, it is worth noting that their dedication to safety and quality are still on par with the high standards of their predecessor.

Polestarnoted in the test;

And plan for them we do, by putting the verification prototype cars through crash tests at different speeds and various angles. It’s dramatic. It’s exhilarating. And it’s necessary.”

“Accidents aren’t planned, but they can be planned for”—That says it all for us! Plan for the worst, and that is exactly what they did with this carbon fiber reinforced polymer body Polestar 1, a 600 horsepower hybrid beast.

“With its triple battery set-up, two electric motors, internal combustion engine and Integrated Starter Generator (ISG)—the Polestar 1delivers 600 hp, 1000 Nm of torque and has an electric range of 150 km (NEDC).”—Polestar 2019

This test was done at the Volvo Car Groupcrash testing facilities in Gothenburg, Sweden. The test was done on a 157 meter track, at about 515 feet, and hit the wall at around 35 mph. as noted in the video. The test was to see how the carbon fiber would differ from the steel bodies of the past. Noted, the engineering involved with this building of a new material would lend to a whole new idea of crumple zones, stress and energy dispersion as carbon fiber lends to shattering instead of bending.

Polestarclaims that the results from their initial tests show that the initial impact energy is mostly absorbed by the crash structure, while the rest of the energy is absorbed by the carbon fiber body panels. They noted that the body panels after the crash showed no signs of warping and the windshield had no damage.

Overall, we call that a resounding victory for both Polestarand Volvoand we look forward to the future of safety coming from both companies.
