ACES PCdbEmission Control > Sensors > Ignition Knock (Detonation) Sensor
Product Description
Modern cars with computer-controlled ignition try to generate a spark as early as is safe in the combustion cycle, so each combustion event can be as complete as possible.
If the spark plug fires too soon (or if the gas doesn't have a high enough octane rating), combustion in the cylinders may be fast and uncontrolled: the piston is pushed down too early/rapidly, resulting in a "knocking" or "pinging" noise and knock or misfire error codes.
Left unchecked, knocking will destroy an engine, so it's essential to have knock sensors in good working order that'll let your ECU know when knock is happening so it can retard ignition timing and protect your motor.
This Bosch knock sensor was the OE supplied part for many 90s VWs and Audis, and is the perfect drop-in replacement for a faulty knock sensor.
