Sometimes the easiest solution for getting that stubborn oil filter off is a good ol' strap wrench! Nothing fancy about a strap wrench but they sure do work great when you need them. This particular one fits oil filters up to 6 inches in diameter. Simply wrap the strap around the filter (or filter holder if it's a cartridge style filter) and twist the handle up until it's tight. Then attach to either your 1/2" drive wratchet or a 3/4" wrench to apply proper force.
