Anybody that has dealt with hammering a balljoint off of a control arm, or a tie rod end off of a steering knuckle knows how much of a pain it can be and how easy it is to marr threads up. This nifty tool will become your best friend when it comes time to remove these!
Simply remove the nut holding your particular ball joint on and then set this tool in place. The Y shaped piece rests against the far edge mounting point (the boot side of the ball joint) and the other ear against the protruded stud/bolt of the tie rod. From there you tighten down the main bolt in the back. This will start providing even tension against the protruded stud end of the ball joint until it pops free! No hammering required!
