Cylinder head bolts on 5-valve VWs like the 2.8 V6 in the Passat and the 1.8T require a special polydrive tool. This superficially resembles a large Torx bit, but it has square instead of pointed teeth, and trying to use a Torx will likely strip the head bolts and leave you with a much more expensive problem than a $10 tool. Do it right the first time!
